At Zero Dark Circles, a recommendation only means something if you can trust how we reached it. Here’s exactly how we choose, test and rank every eye cream and under-eye product on this site.
How we choose what to test
We start with the concern, not the brand. For dark circles that means shortlisting products by the cause they target — pigment, vascular (blue/purple), puffiness or hollowing — and by the active ingredients with real evidence behind them, such as vitamin C, niacinamide, retinol, caffeine, vitamin K and peptides. We consider drugstore, mid-range and premium options so there’s a fair pick for every budget.
How we test
We buy the products ourselves and use each one consistently over several weeks — eye creams are a slow game, and a fair test reflects that. We take our own photographs in consistent lighting so you see real results, not stock images. Where a product is better suited to one type of dark circle than another, we say so plainly.
What we score
-
- Visible results — brightening, depuffing or smoothing over time
-
- Ingredients — whether the actives are meaningful and well-formulated
-
- Texture & wear — how it feels and how it sits under makeup
-
- Suitability — sensitive skin, mature skin and different skin tones
-
- Value — results relative to price and how long it lasts
Reviewed for accuracy
Skincare is personal and, in places, medical. Our guidance is reviewed for accuracy by Natasha Johnson MD first, and we cite qualified sources where claims need support. We are not a substitute for professional medical advice; always patch-test and consult a professional for persistent concerns.
Honesty and independence
No brand pays for a place on our lists or for a positive review. We do earn commissions when you buy through some of our links, at no extra cost to you — that’s how the site stays free — but it never changes our rankings or the drawbacks we report. When a product has cons, we tell you. See our affiliate disclosure for the full details.
We keep reviews current
Formulas change and new products launch. We revisit our guides regularly, retest where needed, and update the date at the top of each review so you always know how fresh our advice is.
